Raise the Roof Fund Raiser
The Raise the Roof fund raiser is a benefit to help raise funds for The Peoples Spiritualist Church in St. Petersburg Florida. This church has been a home for the Metaphysical Spiritual community since 1929. Over the years they have hand many classes helping our spiritual community learn and grow spiritually.

The Church was first given to the Indiana Association of Spiritualists for the exclusive use of the promulgation of Spiritualism in 1929.At that time, the mediums from Camp Chestefield in Anderson, Indiana, made a yearly pilgrimage to St. Petersburg during the winter months to escape the brutal and snow bound winters of Indiana.
They would open the little church on Ninth Avenue, (the present day location of the church) and continue the practice of mediumship. Early in May they would close the church, journey back to Camp for their spring, summer and fall activities until once again, they came south.
In 1943, the church received its Charter from the Indiana Association of Spiritualists. That meant that People's Spiritualist Church, even though still owned by Camp Chesterfield, had their blessing to run as an independent entity. We had our own Board and made our own decisions, however we did follow the by-laws of Camp. The Church was blessed with many very gifted mediums and a few of these stayed in St. Petersburg all year round during that time were very active running their own development classes for their student mediums. The students would then go to Camp and attend classes at the Camp Seminary in order to be ordained by the Indiana Association of Spiritialists under the sponsorship of their development teachers. These wonderful mediums have all transitioned but they have left their legacy behind on those of us who studied under them.
Some of the greatest mediums of all time have been associated with our church in one way or another, Rev. Mamie Brown, Rev. Austin Wallace, Rev. Peggy Olson, George Anderson and even George Lhamsa, the person who translated the Bible from the original Aramaic used to hang out here. Our Pastor, Rev. Norman Williams, served the church for over thirty years. He was an auric artist, one of the greatest, and he spent time between our church when it was open and in Camp Chesterfield at his home on the White River serving as Camp Vice-President. Rev. Lelia Leland was the self-avowed caretaker of People's Church and Norman's right-hand person over those thirty years. She was a very gifted physical medium and she was my personal teacher. As mentioned earlier, we were a very eager group of students. We would spend hours every week in her séance room under her tutelage.
In the early 2000s, the mediums of the church started their transitions, and it was time for the students to become the elders of the church. We decided to keep the church open all year and for the first time ever the church was open every Sunday for worship, healing and fellowship. We continued the tradition of holding monthly Gala Psychic Fairs, which we now call Gala Mediums' evenings as we gather once a month in the evening, usually the third Thursday, to commune with our Spirit loved ones. We decided to meet at night because the church is especially beautiful with the candlelight. Also, many spirit loved ones find the candlelit church a most convenient and cozy place to visit. In the evening hours the church is quite active with clouds of white mists floating freely throughout the aisles. There are brilliant spirit lights and when we are truly in high consciousness we might be able to glimpse a full manifestation as evidenced by a spirit loved one dancing through the hallways or rattling around in the kitchen.
